Episode of Sparrows was the first of her adult books which I ever read. I discovered Godden through her children's books when I was a little girl. Sparrows was a good transition to her adult work. I remember thinking that for a British writer she was surprisingly un-hostile to Catholicism. She grew up in India, exposed to many very different religions.

I discoverd Godden a few years ago and have enjoyed finding her books in used bookshops. Her translation of PRAYERS FROM THE ARK is quite interesting too.
